Reflecting on what we’ve done so far, with Dance to Death, we’ve noticed that it has been increasingly difficult to find good, or, at least, fitting work for the magazine. Serial publications may need a shake up from time to time, to dust off stagnancy and reenergize expectations; it’s what we intend to do. D2D will be back, sometime, with new art, and a new approach, as a necessary rejuvenation for itself and a possible remedy to the ills of online poetry and its plethora of repetitive drivel. In the mean time, we’ll keep up submissions.
Check out Nursery Rhymes of Our Time II, if the opportunity has not arisen yet. Also take a trip to Observations, After
July 13, 2007 Dance to Death Issue VI to be released this month.
May 14, 2007 In honour of our unborn child, Bruno, and our newly born son, Caleb, who breathed for the first time four days ago, we are proud to announce the release of Nursery Rhymes of Our Time II. Nursery Rhymes of Our Time II, illustrated by Sheila O’Brien and written by Damien Bailey, comes back again with the same recipe: truth (see editor’s note 2006). These seven new nursery rhymes, like their predecessors, address wide ranging subjects, truly challenging the deceived minds of youth, while entertaining them with bordering controversy. The only shame is that they aren’t available in print. But Sorrowland Press is so broke right now we should’ve called ourselves Penniless Press . . . except our broke friends already beat us to it! Praise the internet, the underground railroad of the artistic community.
In other news, take a look at Adam’s latest postcards in Observations, After. There’s a wonderful sequence of postcards from his trip in South America. Please note that Adam is currently on a break, recovering from an operation and gathering his thoughts. We wish him well in his convalescence.
And Dance to Death, the poetic magazine that tries to shun the rife practice of poetic incest, is accepting submissions for upcoming issues. Take a look at our guidelines and show us what you’ve got. D2D Issue 6 is coming early summer. We’ll keep you posted.
April 15, 2007 Four new postcards in Observations, After. Follow Adam through Bolivia, Peru, and Chile. To take a look at his latest click here.
April 10, 2007 Train crash! Adam’s sent us new postcards relating his experience from having been in a train crash in Bolivia. Great stuff. Click here to take a look.
March 11, 2007 Dance to Death Issue 5 is out! It’s D2D’s first issue of 2007. Michael Kechula is back again with some more micro fiction with his piece “Squigglies”; Anna Cates “Land of the Broken” gives an energetic punch of a portrait of America; and we’ve got yellow, we’ve got grey, we’ve got roses and even raw pork!
And, finally, not to seem pretentious, but Sorrowland Press’s global outreach has now surpassed over 70 countries. This to say that sorrow is indeed universal.
March 18, 2007 If you haven’t looked at Adam’s latest postcards in Observations, After, then wtf are you waiting for? Check his latest ones by clicking here. Adam’s also just had a story published in Descant Magazine so you may want to keep an eye on that.
February 03, 2007 In other news Nomad Gallery will be throwing a nomad party to celebrate different communities of art and thought. Any artists who wish to participate in this event may freely do so. The party will be taking place at the Electric Gallery (30 Marier, just off Beechwood at the Works) on February 9th, 2007, at 7pm.
As well, February 10th, 2007, Nomad Gallery is having an open-mic poetry night at the Electric Gallery. They want all poets out there, including fans of poetry, to come out for a great time. |

PAST NEWS Feb 20, 2008 New Issue of Dance to Death coming in March; you can see the new cover; it represents well Issue IX’s focus on the throttling, the pressure, the guilt, of contemporary living.
With I See a Darkness and Jalapeno Diamond out of print, and Nursery Rhymes of Our Time I and II not in print, we’ve decided to add bonus material. Presently featured, Jalapeno Diamond has an extra poem by the talented Amanda Earl: drugs, sex, addiction—in your face . . . or, you know, where there isn’t much light.
If you got time on your hand, we’ve tweaked the Sorrowland Map, a bit, as pathetic as that seems. We’ve also made some additions to the reviews and respect section of the site.
Jan 01, 2008 One painful reminiscence, three self-cide poems, and two drug trips equal Dance to Death Issue VIII. With one of D2D’s best issue yet, begin with the editors fav, Vi Ransel’s Daddy’s Girl, a work as beautiful and dark as they come. The rest gets lighter, with saving suicide opt outs; however, before you concoct a plan of termination, read Justin Blackburn’s Let’s Do More Drugs, entertaining enough to keep you going until the next issue.
PS, Our sincere apologies for recent email problems. It seems our email address nollama@sorrowlandpress.com has been bouncing at certain periods. If there are any issues, submissions can be sent, in the mean time, to duendesaudade@hotmail.com. Thanks for understanding.
Dec 10, 2007 Sorrowland Press naively wishes peace during the holiday season, to all sentient beings of the erroneous or malicious construct. In other words, merry xmas and a happy new year.
New Dance to Death issue coming January 2008. Click here to see the cover.
In other news, Charles Frederickson has a new website. Click here to see his poetry and art combo knockout.
As well, Adam Jeffries Schwartz has some great new pictures on flickr. Check the main page of Observation, After to gain access to his rich pics and postcards.
Oct 28, 2007 Sorrowland Press is proud to release Dance to Death’s latest, Issue VII. D2D is back, with new art by the honourable Charles Frederickson, and new poetry by a jambalaya of death defying poets. So get started with Gary Beck, who has something to say about the Decline of Verse. Then launch into Shannon J. Prince’s impressive short Orange Like That (strong enough to bully our word count restrictions), right up until Josh Stewart’s palpable These Screaming Hands of Time, in Motion.
Observations, After has returned, as well. After a necessary recuperative period, Adam Jeffries Schwartz sent three postcards, with new ones in the mail. Check in, time to time, see what Adam has to say.
Sept 20, 2007 Dance to Death is honoured to have Charles Frederickson’s art for up and coming issues. D2D Issue VII will be released some time toward the end of the year. If you would like to submit to D2D, check out the guidelines and see if you have what we’re looking for.
In other news, Rock n Roll Revival is having a show of respect for the late/yet to be again?? Electric Gallery. Come to The Rainbow @ 76 Murray St. in the Market on Saturday Sept. 30th (Doors at 8pm). The cost is $5.00. Should be a good time.
Aug 21, 2007 Adam Jeffries Schwartz is posting pictures on flickr. Click here to take a look or check the main page of Observation, After to gain access to his rich pics.
July 27, 2007 Issue Six of Dance to Death is out! Issue Six of D2D features sad, serious, funny, fucked up poems by Iris Jamahl Dunkle, Kane X. Faucher, Bryon D. Howell, Terry Collett, Carley Von, and Hurricane for the Soul. |
