MEDITATION, MISS PRETTY THOUGHT

Meditation, Miss Pretty thought

Was all caught up in Zen and prayer,

Which, being out of touch with books and such,

Needed a finer brain than hers to scan,

And being such a honest girl and clean,

Apart from the occasional lover wed or not,

She set aside an hour or two to view,

The works of some austere and lonely sage

Who, having spun his words in silken thread,

Took her far beyond her skill and thought

And having set aside the books unread

Went back to loving men, wed or not, instead.

Terry Collett, is 58 years old, married, has eight children and eight grandchildren. He lives in Horsham, Sussex. Writing since 1971, Terry has had two small books of poems printed and has had his poems and short stories published in various anthologies and magazines. The few poets who once influenced him are long gone and buried. Lately he seems to be writing in some kind of limbo land.
